Electrical Responses from Lateral-line Nerves of Fishes. Iii

چکیده

Evidence indicates that lateral-line fibers, other than those mediating the "spontaneous" activity of the lateral-line receptors, are brought into play in response to pressure stimuli in catfish and in trout. The distribution and mode of stimulation of mechanoreceptors along the lateral-lines of trout and catfish are discussed in relation to the natural activities of these forms.

Electrical Responses from the Lateral-line Nerves of Catfish. I by Hudson Hoagland

The function of the lateral-line organs of water-inhabitlng vertebrates has been a subject of interest to biologists for many years. Externally the lateral-line system is marked in fishes by rows of pores. The main lateral-line canal extends typically along the flank from head to tail and is a conspicuous marking on most fishes. In the head this canal branches into three stems, one of which pas...

Electrical Responses from the Lateral-line Nerves of Fishes

The spontaneous discharge of impulses from the lateral-line nerves of trout and catfish has been examined. 1. Broken endings of nerve fibers supplying receptors of the lateral-lines of trout and catfish may be the source of a repetitive discharge of nerve impulses. 2. This injury discharge occurs more frequently in trout and may mask the spontaneous discharge from the receptor cells. Experiment...

Histomorphogenesis of cranial nerves in Huso huso larvae

In this study the cranial nerves development of H. huso are explained from 1 to 54-days-old (1, 3, 6, 15, 21 and 54 days). Despite all the researches on fish brain, there are no study on nerves evolution on H. huso during their larvae life. For this research 40 samples of larvae H. husowere obtained (from each age, about six samples were selected). The specimens were ...

Electrical Responses from the Lateral-line Nerves of Catfish. I

1. Records of impulses from the lateral-line nerves of catfish show that the lateral-line organs are in a state of continuous activity, producing a massive discharge of impulses. 2. The discharge may be increased during the direct application of pressure on the skin over the lateral-line canal, by ripples in the water, by irregular currents of water, and by movements of the fish's trunk. 3. The...

Central projections of octavolateralis nerves in the brain of a soniferous damselfish (Abudefduf abdominalis).

Sounds and hydrodynamic stimuli are important cues detected by the octavolateralis system in fishes. The central organization of auditory, mechanosensory, and vestibular projections is known for only a few phylogenetically diverse fishes, and less is known about projections in derived perciforms that use sounds for acoustic communication. We used neuronal labeling to provide a detailed analysis...
